Reverse osmosis membranes will eventually foul over time and will require cleaning. Regular routine maintenance will remove the bulk of the fouling, but over time an accumulated buildup will eventually reduce the membranes efficiency. As a rule of thumb, depending on the use and type of system, cleaning be required every 12-24 months.
